I missed the fall foilage that you and your husband enjoyed. I have found that not only does the "demands of others" take away our time, but our own "past decisions" keep us in bondage -- seeming to forfeit the balanced life you talk about.

I encourage young people who have not yet let their desires for "things" -making them slaves to their lenders - to follow the "Simple Wealth" practices of this blog.

For those of us who are "unbalanced" and trying to find their way out - it is encouraging to find those "few hours on Sunday afternoon spent with a great book and a glass of iced tea" and to make them a priority on a regular basis.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Paul,
Thank you for your insight, and I can say to you, that you are in inspiration to me. Everything I write about is because I have been there, and if I can help one person make one small improvement in their life, then I believe that I have started a wave that will never stop.

It's amazing at how often your posts hit me between the eyes. It's like you are my personal "coach" to living a better life. It is similar to the sermons at my local church, and quite frankly my daily readings in the Bible and other books.

This concept, though matches our Sunday sermon last week. Both focus on not only hearing, but doing. The sermon was based on the concept from James 1:22-25 "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does."

Your post helps me figure out how to DO what I know needs doing, but feel overwhelmed to do. In this case, it relates to clutter, which is a problem in some (but not all) areas of my life. I need to "JUST START" by committing to doing starting just 15 minutes a day. From another post, I remember that if I do something for 21 days, it becomes a habit.

Thanks Blondechief. God uses his word and other people to shape me into the person he wants me to be.

Your article is a breath of fresh air for me this morning. As much as I WANT to think like this 24/7 - I find myself being one of those who turn the autumn conversation to the gloom of winter, instead of enjoying the present.

I just read a book called the Shack. In the book, the main character was asked if he thought God created us to live in the past, present, or future. After a short discussion, he reached the conclusion, that we were created to live in the present, but we seem to spend so much more of our time, living in the past or the future. I'm on my second time reading through the book, and still had the winter reaction to the talk of autumn.

When will I ever learn. Maybe this morning's confrontation with SimpleWealth, will finally push me over the edge on learning this lesson. I sure hope so. I need to surround myself with more people who think like this, so I can live life the way God created it - to live in the present.

Thanks Blondechief!

Great Thought. As a business owner, writing a check to the government for taxes makes you realize that TAX is an expense, not a REFUND or Savings Plan. It forces you to focus on where THAT money is going. When you make LOAN payments, you often forget how much is interest. I can't wait to take some time this weekend, to do my calculations and see how much "Debt is costing me" on a daily basis. I'm sure it will make me think before making another purchase on credit. (Delayed gratification should win over instant gratification)

Holli, thank you so much for the thoughtful, kind comment. I am trying to post pieces that will inspire people to really "stop" and "think" about their lives and their happiness.
